Punk Syn Gen is a sophisticated six-channel groovebox and guitar riff generator designed for crafting heavy rock, thrash metal, punk, and goth-style sequences and loops. This application stands out due to its dual guitar tracks, bass, synth, and dedicated drum channels, enabling users to explore creative musical avenues without requiring proficiency in guitar.

Each track within the app features independent effects, filters, tuning, and ducking capabilities, akin to sidechain compression. Adding notes is straightforward; users can place notes and adjust the power level from subtle strumming to robust power chords for guitar tracks. The bass guitar's power level ranges from a gentle touch to slap bass techniques.

The app offers a one-button solution for generating riffs or scales for all tracks continuously. If a user appreciates a pattern but wishes to alter the notes, they can select their desired scale and apply it across multiple tracks simultaneously. Riffs can be shuffled for variety or transformed into arpeggios with a simple command.

Compositional flexibility is further enhanced with options to transpose entire pieces and control playback speed independently for each track. The ability to halve or quarter playback speed allows for nuanced rhythmic exploration. Influences from bands such as Metallica and Faith No More are evident in the thrash algorithm patterns, with the latter inspiring the incorporation of synth strings.

The app embraces creative chaos in riff generation while offering an extensive array of effects, including bends, echoes, reverb, and distortion—perfect for crafting resonating low-pass filters that evoke a mysterious and moody goth ambiance.

Part of a broader suite of applications that includes 6x808 (a drum sequencer), 2xb303 (a TB303 sequencer), 7XdXfm (a seven-track FM synth), and 7XWave (a sample manipulation groovebox), Punk Syn Gen distinguishes itself by replacing traditional step edits with a dedicated piano roll interface for note placement in a grid format representing pitch and time.

Additionally, MIDI synchronization is supported alongside Ableton Link and Inter-App Audio capabilities, allowing users to route audio to platforms like Audiobus or AUM. Note data can be output on each channel, and users can sample their creations at any time, exporting loops seamlessly to AudioShare or via clipboard/email.
